Let's Rock by The Black Keys
About the album Let's Rock
Let's Rock is the ninth studio album by The Black Keys and was released on June 28, 2019, by Nonesuch Records and Easy Eye Sound. It marks the duo's return after a five-year hiatus from recording. The name and the cover (an electric chair) were inspired by a dark news story they read during the recording sessions. It concerned the execution of convict Edmund Zagorski in Tennessee, who, when asked if he had any last words before the electric chair, replied: "Let's rock."
The album is described as a "tribute to the electric guitar." It is characterized by a "back-to-basics" sound with elements of garage rock and blues rock, completely avoiding the use of keyboards and synthesizers. The influences range from California psychedelia to classic 70s rock. Auerbach and Carney wrote and recorded the tracks live in the studio, creating the material from scratch without prior preparation. The production was done by themselves, without the help of an external producer (like Danger Mouse who participated in previous albums). The recordings took place from September 2018 to January 2019 at Dan Auerbach's Easy Eye Sound in Nashville, Tennessee. The standout singles were Lo/Hi, Eagle Birds, Go, and Fire Walk With Me. The single Lo/Hi became the first song in history to simultaneously reach No. 1 on four different Billboard charts (Mainstream Rock, Adult Alternative, Rock Airplay, Alternative Songs).
The album debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard chart. It also achieved great international success, entering the Top-10 in countries such as the United Kingdom, Australia, and France.
