At Fillmore East by The Allman Brothers Band
About the album At Fillmore East
At Fillmore East is considered by many as the ultimate live album in the history of rock music. It captured The Allman Brothers Band at the peak of their creativity, showcasing the unique sound of "Southern Rock" with strong elements of blues, jazz, and improvisation. It was released in July 1971.
The band performed three consecutive concerts (March 11, 12 & 13) at the legendary Fillmore East club in New York, owned by Bill Graham. Tom Dowd, producer of Atlantic Records, selected the best performances from the shows to compose the double LP. The original album included only 7 tracks, as the performances were extensive jams. The highlight of the album is a 23-minute epic performance in 11/8 time of Whipping Post.
Despite the fact that their two previous studio albums did not have great commercial appeal, their live album catapulted them. It reached No. 13 on the Billboard 200 and No. 44 in Canada.
