Crime Of The Century by Supertramp
About the album Crime Of The Century
Supertramp, that is Rick Davies and Rodger Hudson, had not succeeded at all with their first two studio albums and were ready to give up. Their record company gave them one last chance, sent them to a 17th-century farm, and asked them to reassess whatever they had ready there so they could proceed with the recording of their third album. Under these conditions, Crime Of The Century was released in 1974.
Supertramp managed to complete 42 demos. Eight of them were selected and proceeded to convert them into properly recorded songs, which formed Crime Of The Century. Many of the others appeared on their subsequent albums. The album's producer was Ken Scott.
The album was the record with which Supertramp - finally - tasted the success they had been chasing. At some point on the cover, a dedication is written: "To Sam." These were the initials of the Dutch millionaire Stanley August Miesegaes who had financed the band in its early years.
