About the album Spirit

Spirit, a band with roots in Los Angeles, emerged on the music scene in 1967 and the following year released Spirit, their first album, an album steeped in the psychedelia of the era and region.

The Spirit and their album would have - probably been forgotten - if it weren't for an instrumental composition on their first record titled Taurus, whose guitar chords resemble those of the introduction to Stairway To Heaven by Led Zeppelin, who had opened for a Spirit concert in 1968 on their first U.S. tour. The heirs of Randy California, who had composed Taurus, filed a lawsuit in 2014 to win part of the rights to the Led Zeppelin composition. The court did not rule in their favor.

The Spirit, as an album, was a minor success in the year of its release as it reached No. 31 on the Billboard and had a presence in the Top-200 for six months.
