Sleep's Holy Mountain by Sleep
About the album Sleep's Holy Mountain
When a demo with compositions from an unknown band from San Jose, California, reached the British independent record label, the people at the label did not hesitate to sign a record deal with Sleep.
Thus, Sleep's Holy Mountain was ready in a short period of time as it mainly contained the songs from the demo. The album was initially released in Great Britain in November 1992 and in the U.S.A. in March 1993. Sleep's Holy Mountain, which was Sleep's second album, is a purely doom metal record, though because the word "stoner" is mentioned in two of its nine songs (Holy Mountain and From Beyond) it is considered one of the albums that influenced and also named the music genre of stoner rock/metal a few years later.
The reissue of the album in 2009 includes a cover of Black Sabbath's Snowblind, obviously to honor the greatest influence Sleep had in achieving the result known as Sleep's Holy Mountain.
