The Door To Doom  by Candlemass

The Swedish pioneers of doom metal return to the discography with the twelfth album of their career, titled The Door To Doom. Candlemass prove with this album that they can still lead in this particular subgenre of metal music.

The Door To Doom was recorded in 2018 and released in February 2019, seven years after their previous discographic work. In The Door To Doom, we see the return of vocalist Johan Längqvist, who had not collaborated with the band since 1986 and the release of the legendary Epicus Doomicus Metallicus. It is no coincidence, then, that the cover of The Door To Doom is a variation of the cover of Epicus Doomicus Metallicus. Another defining feature of the album was the presence and collaboration of Tony Iommi on guitar in the song Astorolus - The Great Octopus, which was nominated for a Grammy award for Best Metal Performance. The songs on the album are all compositions by the bassist and main composer of the group, Leif Edling.

The album received an ecstatic reception both from fans of this music and from music magazines, which described it as one of the best heavy metal albums of 2019. The Door To Doom reached No13 in Sweden and No18 in Germany.
