About the album Show No Mercy
The story of Slayer's first album begins when former music journalist Brian Slagel, founder of Metal Blade Records, asks the band to record a song for the compilation Metal Massacre III. Slayer agrees, and this initial collaboration leads to the recording and release of Show No Mercy in December 1983, the debut of California's Slayer. The album was produced by Slayer and Brian Slagel.
The album is a sheer challenge. Slayer wants to promote themselves as a band whose song themes revolve around Satan in order to attract attention. This starts from the cover and extends to songs like The Antichrist or Black Magic.
It is said that Show No Mercy was funded by the savings of singer Tom Araya and the loans given by guitarist Kerry King's father. Although the album became popular among heavy metal circles, there was nothing more. Today, it is considered one of the albums that created the thrash metal scene. At the time of its release, it was the most extreme in sound that had been released up to that point due to the fast and rough sound that entirely characterized it.
