Seasons In The Abyss

About the album Seasons In The Abyss

Slayer relentlessly hit their audience in 1990 with their fifth album, Seasons In The Abyss, one of the most well-crafted albums of their entire career. The music by Jeff Hanneman and Kerry King, combined with the lyrics by Tom Araya, leave no room for reaction. With Seasons In The Abyss, Slayer prove in the early 1990s which is the rawest thrash metal band of that period.

The album was released by Rick Rubin's Def Records, who was also the main producer of the record. The recordings took place from March to June 1990 and were conducted in two different studios in Los Angeles and Hollywood. The title track was the first single from the album, and for its promotion, Slayer's first video clip was filmed, featuring the band members playing in front of the Pyramids of Egypt. Seasons In The Abyss was the last album by Slayer recorded with the original quartet of the band, as drummer Dave Lombardo left the group in 1992 and returned in 2006.

The album reached No. 40 on the Billboard chart, and its sales in the U.S. have surpassed 800,000 copies. In the United Kingdom, it reached No. 18 and in Finland No. 12.
