Divine Intervention by Slayer
About the album Divine Intervention
Divine Intervention is the sixth studio album by Slayer, which was released on September 27, 1994, by American Recordings. It is the band's first album with Paul Bostaph on drums, following Dave Lombardo's departure. The recording took place between March and June 1994 at Ocean Way (Los Angeles) and Sound City (Van Nuys).
The production was undertaken by Slayer and Toby Wright, with executive producer Rick Rubin. Wright also served as the sound and mixing engineer. The production of Divine Intervention sought a more raw and aggressive sound compared to their previous album, Seasons In The Abyss. The lyrics of the songs in Divine Intervention shift from the metaphysical and satanism to raw realism and the dark aspects of humanity. For example, the song 213 refers to the serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer (his apartment number), while Sex. Murder. Art. describes a morbid relationship, and Dittohead criticizes the American judicial system.
Despite the dominance of grunge at that time, Slayer remained true to their extreme sound, even reaching No.8 on the Billboard 200. The sales of Divine Intervention reached 500,000 in the U.S. and 50,000 in Canada.
