About the album Wheels Of Steel
Not even a year had passed since the release of Saxon's first album, and the British band returned with their second album in 1980. Wheels Of Steel is now a classic NWOBHM album, one of the most representative of the genre. Wheels Of Steel is one of the albums that "built" British heavy metal in the early 1980s.
The compositions of the album are the result of all the band's members. The most classic - perhaps - song of the album is 747 (Strangers In The Night), which was the second single of the album. Saxon also worked on the production of the album together with Pete Hinton. On the album cover, the "eagle," the classic symbol of the band from Barnsley, appears for the first time, a symbol that would appear on the covers of many more Saxon albums.
Wheels Of Steel was Saxon's first major success. The album reached No.5 in the United Kingdom and quickly went gold with sales surpassing 100,000 in their home country alone.
