Marathon by Santana
About the album Marathon
Carlos Santana and his band Santana inaugurated in 1979 a fifteen-year collaboration— as it turned out— with Scottish Alex Ligertwood, who took on the vocals for the songs of the eleventh studio album, Marathon, as well as other albums Santana presented until 1994. A new addition to the Santana lineup is organist Alan Pasqua, who contributes to the composition of several tracks on the record.
Marathon was recorded at The Automatt studio in San Francisco in 1979. In this particular album, Santana blends rock, rhythm 'n' blues, and fusion rock all within a pop wrapper. The result was the single "You Know That I Love You" entering the Billboard Top 40, something that had not happened for the band since 1972. Apart from Carlos Santana in the production of Marathon, we also find Keith Olsen as a producer.
Marathon reached No. 25 in the U.S. and No. 25 in the United Kingdom. In France, it reached No. 5, while another notable position was 9th in Australia. The album's sales reached 500,000, while in France, it sold 100,000. In hindsight, we can say that with Marathon, Santana entered a period during which their sound became accessible to a broader audience.
