Country Life by Roxy Music
About the album Country Life
Country Life is the fourth studio album by the English art rock band Roxy Music, which was released on November 15, 1974. It is considered by many critics to be one of their most sophisticated and cohesive works, marking the peak of British art rock of the era.
The album combines avant-garde structures, hard rock, European influences (such as German cabaret in Bitter-Sweet), and nostalgic ballads. It is the first Roxy Music album recorded with the same lineup as the previous one (Stranded), with Eddie Jobson on keyboards and violin and John Gustafson on bass. The cover is one of the most recognizable and controversial in rock history. It depicts two semi-naked models from Germany, Constanze Karoli and Eveline Grunwald, whom Bryan Ferry met in Portugal. Due to its provocation, the cover was censored or banned in countries such as the USA, Spain, and the Netherlands. In the USA, later editions (1975-1980) replaced the models' photograph with a shot of just the trees from the background.
Country Life was the band's first album to enter the US Top 40 (No. 37), while in the United Kingdom it reached No. 3. The album was produced by the band themselves along with producer John Punter.
