About the album Murmur

The band R.E.M. was formed in Athens, Georgia in 1980. In 1983, they managed to release their first album titled Murmur through the record label I.R.S. The producer of the album was Mitch Easter, who tried to bring out the best in the R.E.M. quartet.

In their first album, R.E.M. showcase their talent by presenting a variety of songs that range from jungle pop to garage rock. During the recordings, the band refused to follow recording standards. For example, they declined to include the use of synthesizers or guitar solos in the recordings. In this way, the sound of R.E.M. was created.

The album reached No.36 on the Billboard.
