About the album A Night At The Opera

In 1935, the Marx Brothers starred in the comedy "A Night At The Opera" directed by Sam Wood. From there, Queen borrowed the title for the masterpiece they created in the mid-1970s. The 1975 "A Night At The Opera" is the album that placed Queen very high in the rock firmament. The album and its musical style were a combination of hard rock (even heavy metal), avant-pop, and operatic passages from Freddie Mercury and the rest of the band. And all this under the veil of a distinctive progressive rock aura. Here one will encounter the legendary "Bohemian Rhapsody," whose success skyrocketed Queen's career and combines all of the above.

"A Night At The Opera" and its compositions were written at a time when the band had to make important decisions about whether to continue their collaboration with Trident Records, as the earnings from their sales were negligible due to their contract. After nine months of legal battles, they managed to sign with EMI Records in the UK and Electra Records for the United States. A new era was beginning.

The success of the album was universal. Sales in the U.S. reached 3,000,000, while in Britain they reached 300,000. Queen was now a major rock band, which held many promises for the future.
