About the album Is This Desire?
At the end of September 1998, the fourth studio album by Polly Jean Harvey titled Is This Desire? is released. PJ Harvey and her band recorded it from April 1997 to April 1998. The recordings took place at Small World studio in Yeovil and at Whitfield Street studio in London.
In this fourth album, the artist introduces some new elements of electronica and trip-hop music, something that was not present in her previous albums which had a clear blues and rock sound. In the production of Is This Desire?, apart from herself, we also have Flood. PJ Harvey has stated that the album was created during a difficult period in her life and that it is hard for her to listen to it.
The album had two singles, A Perfect Day Elise and The Wind, which made a good presence in the Top-40 of Great Britain, reaching No.25 and No.29 respectively. The album has sold approximately 500,000 copies worldwide.
