About the album Surfer Rosa

The Pixies from Boston, after the release of their first EP, made their first official recording appearance with the LP Surfer Rosa a year later in 1988. Surfer Rosa, thanks to its alternative rock sound, has achieved legendary status in the music scene which was being shaped in the late '80s.

Surfer Rosa consists of thirteen compositions, the vast majority of which are creations of the singer and guitarist Black Francis. The album's production is credited to Steve Albini, who played a significant role as he managed to combine and balance the hard rock sound with pop music. The album has served as an inspiration for all the bands of the grunge music scene that would dominate three to four years later. In this particular album, Where Is My Mind? awaits the unsuspecting listener, a song that became popular as it was heard in the 1999 film “Fight Club” and was brought back into the spotlight in 2003 through the Placebo cover.

The Pixies' debut initially became known only in underground circles. Over the years, and as musical trends took their course in the '90s, music lovers discovered the album and its value, and now the record has surpassed 500,000 copies sold in the United States alone.
