The Philip Lynott Album by Phil Lynott
About the album The Philip Lynott Album
The Philip Lynott Album, released on September 17, 1982, is the second and final solo work of the Thin Lizzy leader, Phil Lynott. Although it is not considered a "classic" in its entirety like the works of Thin Lizzy, it stands out for its experimentation with the new wave and synth-pop sound of the early 1980s. In essence, it does not resemble the sound of Thin Lizzy's albums in many ways.
The album includes Old Town, which is considered one of Lynott's top pop songs, with an iconic video clip shot in Dublin. Other singles were Yellow Pearl (which was used as the opening theme for the show Top Of The Pops) and Together. The album is filled with prominent names, such as Mark Knopfler on guitar, Midge Ure on keyboards, guitar, and production, and Huey Lewis on harmonica, as well as members of Thin Lizzy. The recording took place in 1981 in various studios, such as Good Earth and Odyssey in London, Compass Point in the Bahamas, and Windmill Lane in Dublin.
The album reached No. 28 on the UK charts, while the single Yellow Pearl had reached No. 14 in 1981.
