About the album Over

In 1977, the year of the release of Peter Hammill's sixth solo album, Van der Graaf Generator was a distant past. This did not prevent Hammill from collaborating with former members Nic Potter (bass) and Guy Evans (drums) to record one of his best albums, Over. The original intention for the album's title was Over My Shoulder.

Over is an album consisting of eight art rock compositions. The album could also be considered a concept album since all its songs are about the breakup of a long-term relationship with some "Alice". Notable is the presence of Graham Smith with his violin in the songs Autumn and Betrayed. Significant assistance also comes from Michael Brand, who undertakes the orchestration of the song This Side Of The Looking Glass.

All compositions belong to Peter Hammill, who also produces the album. From the album, Crying Wolf stood out as a single.
