About the album Heathen Chemistry
In 2000, the year when Oasis released their fifth album, the britpop music movement had come to an end and even bands like Oasis had to adapt to the new reality. Thus, Heathen Chemistry is an album that moves within alternative rock without necessarily renouncing their britpop past, something that is evident in songs like Little By Little, Born On A Different Cloud, or Songbird.
Oasis, through Heathen Chemistry, present a more rock-oriented persona than they had in the past. The main protagonist of the album is the first single, The Hindu Times, which reached No. 1 in the United Kingdom. Unlike the band’s previous albums, where the main songwriting responsibility fell on Noel Gallagher, here we have the contribution of the other members of Oasis in some songs.
Heathen Chemistry and its performance in the charts was clearly a British affair. It is sufficient to mention that in the United Kingdom it went four times platinum, selling over 1,200,000 copies, while in the USA their sales barely exceeded 150,000 (!). Liam Gallagher stated in 2017 that he considers it the worst Oasis album.
