Tender Prey by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
About the album Tender Prey
Tender Prey becomes the fifth album by Nick Cave and his crew, the Bad Seeds. The album was recorded between August and November of 1987, but its release happened almost a year later, in September of 1988. Tender Prey seems to close the first cycle of Nick Cave's discographic works in terms of their musical style. Here, post-punk clashes with gothic-rock, but in the background art rock emerges.
The album opens with the intense 7 minutes of The Mercy Seat, which existed in a shorter form as the first single from Tender Prey, and also the first "classic" song of the Australian songwriter. The composers of the song are Nick Cave and Mick Harvey, who is present compositively in many more songs of the album. In the production of the album, apart from the band members, we have Flood and Tony Cohen with whom Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds had collaborated on previous works of theirs.
At the time of its release, the album succeeded in starring in the charts of the United Kingdom, as well as Greece (!) Tender Prey in Australia is consistently among the 100 best albums released there.
