Chrome Dreams II by Neil Young
About the album Chrome Dreams II
Chrome Dreams II is the thirtieth studio album by Neil Young, released on October 23, 2007. Chrome Dreams II is not just an album; it's a roadmap that unites three decades, a chrome bridge connecting 1977 with 2007. The songs are a mix of older and new material. The first three tracks (Beautiful Bluebird, Boxcar, Ordinary People) were written in the 1980s. Ordinary People, in particular, comes from 1988. The rest were written in the months leading up to its release.
The album is characterized by a wide variety of styles (country-rock, folk, hard rock, Americana), reminiscent of his earlier works like After The Gold Rush. It includes everything from acoustic ballads to epic electric pieces with lengthy guitar solos, such as the 18-minute Ordinary People and the 14-minute No Hidden Path. The majority of the recordings were made live at Feelgood's Garage studio near Redwood City, California, between May 31 and July 6, 2007. The production was done by The Volume Dealers, namely Neil Young and Niko Bolas.
Chrome Dreams II reached No. 11 on the American Billboard 200. The track No Hidden Path was nominated for a Grammy. Despite its "challenging" nature, the album reached the top of the charts, proving that people still need the "rusty" but sincere voice of the "Dirty Old Man."
