American Stars 'n Bars by Neil Young
About the album American Stars 'n Bars
American Stars 'n Bars is the eighth studio album by Neil Young and is yet another album in which he is accompanied by the band Crazy Horse. It was released in May 1977, and its musical style ranges between heartland rock and country rock, as well as folk rock and blues-rock. This is due to the fact that the songs were not recorded during the same period.
The album consists of nine songs. The first five (the first side of the vinyl) are songs recorded on April 4, 1977, and were new compositions by the artist. For the second side of the album, Neil Young sought compositions from his past. Thus, the four songs that complete American Stars 'n Bars are songs he recorded in 1974, 1975, and 1976. Fortunately, he made this move as one of his greatest and most complete songs appeared on the album, Like A Hurricane, which was ready and waiting for its turn since November 29, 1975 (!)
American Stars 'n Bars reached No. 21 on the Billboard, No. 17 in the United Kingdom, and No. 16 in Canada. In the USA, the album went gold, selling over 500,000 copies.
