About the album The Resistance

The Resistance is Muse's fifth studio album and was released in September 2009. It is one of the band's most ambitious records, combining alternative rock with orchestral music, glam rock, and electronic elements. It is the first album that the band produced entirely on their own. It was recorded at Lake Como in Italy.

The lyrics of the songs are heavily influenced by politics, conspiracy theories, and George Orwell's book "1984." 'Uprising' was the lead single with an industrial-rock sound, while 'Resistance' also followed the path of success. The album concludes with a three-part symphony lasting 13 minutes that ends the album, featuring an orchestra of 40 musicians, the Exogenesis: Symphony.

The album reached No. 1 in 19 countries and has sold over 5,000,000 copies worldwide. The Resistance won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album in 2011. It is considered the point where Muse firmly established themselves as one of the world's biggest "stadium rock" bands. The album's promotional tour in 2010 generated earnings amounting to $76,000,000 (!)
