About the album 1916
Lemmy had already moved to Los Angeles in 1990, where the recordings of Motorhead's ninth studio album titled 1916 took place in 1991. The title and the eponymous song that closes the album are a reference to World War I. 1916 would also be the last album featuring Philthy Animal Taylor on drums.
The album and its recording were marked by the dismissal of producer Ed Stasium after four songs, because Lemmy discovered that he had added xylophones and tambourines to the mix without consulting any member of the band. The production was then entrusted to Peter Solley for the completion of the album.
1916 wasn't a huge success for Motorhead, as it reached No. 24 in the UK and No. 142 in the USA.
