Your Arsenal by Morrissey
About the album Your Arsenal
Morrissey released the third album of his solo career in the summer of 1992. The album was titled Your Arsenal and is rightly considered one of the most iconic and dynamic records in his solo career. The title is a "triple entendre." It may refer to the power someone possesses ("arsenal"), the Arsenal football team as an element of subculture, and a pun on the phrase "your arse an' all" (your backside and all related).
The album marked a shift from indie pop to a more "muscular" rock sound, combining the glam rock of the '70s with rockabilly. It was produced by the legendary Mick Ronson, former guitarist of David Bowie, who gave the album a rougher and "fuller" sound. Your Arsenal was supported by five singles (!). The first single was We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful.
Your Arsenal reached No. 4 on the UK charts and was nominated for a Grammy for Best Alternative Album. On the other hand, the album sparked reactions due to the song The National Front Disco, which led to accusations from the music press of flirting with far-right rhetoric, although Morrissey denied it.
