The Moon & Antarctica by Modest Mouse
About the album The Moon & Antarctica
The Moon & Antarctica is the third studio album by the American indie rock band Modest Mouse, which was released in June 2000. It is considered one of the most important albums of the 2000s and the work that established the band in the alternative scene. The album's recordings lasted from July to November 1999.
It combines indie rock with elements of art rock and psychedelia, using layers of guitars, percussion, and effects on vocals. The album's title comes from a scene in the film Blade Runner (1982), where the protagonist reads a newspaper with the title "Farming the Oceans, the Moon and Antarctica." The production was done by Brian Deck. The recording took place in Chicago and lasted five months, offering a more "clean" and rich sound compared to their previous lo-fi works.
The album received rave reviews at the time of its release. Although it only reached No. 120 on the Billboard, it eventually went gold in the USA and is now considered a "classic" of the genre.
