About the album Off The Wall
In 1979, at the age of 21, Michael Jackson recorded and released Off The Wall, the album destined to become the launching pad for the massive commercial global appeal he would experience for at least the next fifteen years with all his subsequent works. A large part of the album's success is attributed to producer Quincy Jones, who met Michael Jackson during the filming of the movie "The Wiz" the previous year, and they agreed to record an album together.
Off The Wall is filled with R&B, disco, pop, and funk music songs. Five songs from the album were released as singles, four of which reached the Top-10 of the Billboard chart, while two of them, Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough and Rock With You, reached the top of the American chart. This in itself was an achievement happening for the first time in the history of pop & rock music. Among those who offered their help to the young Michael Jackson were Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney, Patti Austin, Steve Porcaro on synthesizers, and many others.
The sales of Off The Wall have now exceeded 20,000,000 copies worldwide, with 9,000,000 of them sold in the United States.
