Love To Love You Baby by Donna Summer
About the album Love To Love You Baby
At the age of 26, following an unsuccessful debut, Donna Summer approached the songwriting duo of Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte on her own and proposed collaborating on a dance song that would revolve around the phrase she had thought of, "love to love you, baby," which was actually based on the French hit Je T'aime... Moi Non Plus by Jane Birkin from 1969.
Thus, Moroder, who was interested in creating something new in disco music at that time, was particularly positive about Donna Summer's proposal. The result was a 17-minute-long dance track that occupied the entire first side of the album of the same name, released in late August 1975. The second side consisted of five more noteworthy compositions.
As an album, Love To Love You Baby was successful as a record, but above all, the title song and its single, which was limited to a 3.20-minute version, became an anthem for the disco era. The album exceeded 1,500,000 sales worldwide. The single of Love To Love You Baby sold 1,000,000 copies in the United States alone.
