About the album Reload
Reload was released a year after Load. Metallica's seventh album was nothing more than the release of thirteen songs, the majority of which had already been recorded since 1996, along with some new songs that were recorded three to four months before the release of Reload in November 1997.
Reload was the last studio album to feature bassist Jason Newsted, who left after a decade with Metallica, or rather never recorded with them again since the official departure was in 2014 (!) Reload received heavy criticism from the band's die-hard fans as it was yet another step further away from the group's thrash metal era. The dominant sound that Metallica now chooses is clearly heavy metal or even hard rock. The album's producer for the third consecutive studio album was Bob Rock, who is largely responsible for the change in the group's musical style. One of the notable moments of the album is the song The Memory Remains, which was the first single from the album and was characterized by the participation of Marianne Faithfull on vocals (!) It was the first time Metallica collaborated with another artist in their studio work. On Reload, one will also hear The Unforgiven II, which was released as the second single from the album in February 1998.
Obviously, Reload reached No. 1 on the Billboard and dominated the charts in many other countries, although its sales were at a lower level than Load. Today, it is estimated that it has surpassed 9,000,000 copies sold (!) It's probably an excellent performance for an album that received negative comments from critics and fans alike.
