About the album Master Of Puppets

Master Of Puppets, recorded at Sweet Silence Studios in Copenhagen, Denmark with producer Flemming Rasmussen and Metallica themselves, is considered by many to be the masterpiece of the Californian thrashers and one of the gems of heavy music of all time. The album was recorded between September 1, 1985, and December 27 of the same year. It was released on March 3, 1986, six months before the tragic death of bassist Cliff Burton during the promotional tour.

Drummer Lars Ulrich took lessons on how to play drums better, while Kirk Hammett worked with virtuoso Joe Satriani on how to play electric guitar more effectively. The result was stunning, as evidenced by the album's commercial appeal. Master Of Puppets has sold nearly 10,000,000 copies worldwide, while in the U.S. it managed to reach 300,000 copies in its first three weeks of release (!)

The subsequent bassist of Metallica, Robert Trujillo, has stated that Master of Puppets has always been his favorite album, "I feel that Master of Puppets has a lot of everything. It has instrumentals, concert songs, great riffs. It has one of my favorite Metallica songs, and that is Disposable Heroes. It contains everything I love about Metallica."
