About the album Hardwired... To Self-Destruct
The first statements about a new Metallica album were made by bassist Robert Trujillo in October 2011. It took five years for Metallica to release what would become the tenth studio album of their career, titled Hardwired... To Self-Destruct, which comes after an eight-year recording hiatus – the longest in Metallica's career.
In this album, Metallica combines heavy metal with thrash metal. The producer of the album was To Hardwired… To Self-Destruct and it is the only Metallica album where Kirk Hammet does not appear as a composer of any song. The reason is that in 2015 he lost his phone at Copenhagen airport, in which he had stored approximately 250 riffs he had written. Thus, he could not contribute to the creation of the album with anything of his own (!) The album was promoted with a tour called Hardwired... To Self-Destruct. It started in February 2016 and concluded in August 2019 (!)
The album, within the first week of its release, reached No.1 in fifty-seven countries (!) Hardwired... To Self-Destruct has surpassed 2,000,000 copies in sales worldwide.
