About the album Garage Inc.
In 1998, Metallica presented a double album lasting 136 minutes, full of covers of songs by artists and bands that had shaped their sound up to that point in their career. Garage Inc. is a blend of heavy metal, thrash metal, and hard rock.
The first disc contains eleven new covers of compositions by artists who - most likely - could not have imagined that they would coexist on the same album. Thus, here we hear Loverman by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and Die, Die My Darling by the Misfits. The singles from Garage Inc. were Turn The Page by Bob Seger (!) and Whiskey In The Jar by Thin Lizzy. The truth is that not all efforts are equally successful, but one should remain focused on the fact that Metallica wants to show and honor their influences. The second disc of this collection consists of: a. the five songs from The $5.98 E.P. – Garage Days Re-Revisited from 1987. b. the B-sides from the Creeping Death single from 1984, c. some B-sides and one-offs recorded between the years 1988 to 1993 and d. the last part of the second disc, Motörheadache, which consists of four covers of songs by Motorhead.
Sales of Garage Inc. have approached 4,000,000 worldwide. The album reached No.2 on the Billboard, while the cover of Whiskey In The Jar won the Grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance.
