About the album Death Magnetic
Five years after St. Anger, which didn't leave the best impressions on Metallica fans, and twenty years after the iconic ... And Justice For All, which is the band's last purely thrash metal album, Metallica returns to their roots with Death Magnetic.
Besides the clear change in the sound of the Californian band's ninth studio album, there are some other differences compared to their previous works. Rick Rubin took on the production instead of Bob Rock, Robert Trujillo recorded an album with his new band for the first time, and the classic band logo returned on the black-and-white cover, which visually refers to ... And Justice For All. All these show that Metallica had changed direction and mentality. In order to promote their new album, the band started the World Magnetic Tour in October 2008 in the U.S. and concluded it in November 2010 in Australia. They had to cover many miles to reconnect with their audience (!) It is estimated that 2,600,000 people attended the 164 appearances of the tour.
Death Magnetic has reached 4,000,000 copies in sales worldwide, while it reached No. 1 on the charts in 23 countries (!)
