About the album Sailing To Philadelphia

Sailing To Philadelphia is Mark Knopfler's second solo album, which was released on September 26, 2000. It is considered one of the most successful and beloved works of his personal journey after the Dire Straits. The album features sounds of roots rock, folk, and blues, with Knopfler's characteristic atmospheric guitar.

Mark Knopfler recorded the album between the years 1998 and 2000 in Nashville. The album stands out for featuring great artists, such as James Taylor on the title track Sailing to Philadelphia, which is inspired by the book Mason & Dixon by Thomas Pynchon and narrates the journey of Jeremiah Dixon and Charles Mason to draw the eponymous boundary line in the USA. James Taylor portrays Charles Mason, while Knopfler sings as Jeremiah Dixon (!). Van Morrison sings on The Last Laugh, while Glenn Tilbrook and Chris Difford from Squeeze participate in the vocals of Silvertown Blues.

In 2001, Knopfler promoted the release of Sailing To Philadelphia with his Sailing to Philadelphia Tour, which began on March 27, 2001, in Mexico City, Mexico, and included 80 concerts in 68 cities, finishing on July 31, 2001, in Moscow, Russia. The tour was comprised of three legs: Mexico and South America, North America, and Europe and Russia.
