Mark Knopfler is a British musician, singer-songwriter, guitarist, and producer, known as the principal composer and leader of the rock band Dire Straits. He was born on August 12, 1949, in Glasgow, Scotland. Dire Straits achieved worldwide success in the 1980s with hits like "Sultans of Swing" and "Money for Nothing." Mark Knopfler is known for his distinctive fingerpicking guitar style and expressive voice. After the dissolution of Dire Straits in 1995, Mark Knopfler successfully continued his solo career, releasing numerous albums and collaborating with various artists. In addition to his music career, he has composed soundtracks for films and is involved in humanitarian work.
