Patchanka by Mano Negra
About the album Patchanka
In no way could Manu Chao and his band Mano Negra have imagined in 1988, when they released their debut, Patchanka, how ahead of their time they would be. Patchanka is a record where a thousand and one diverse musical genres are combined through an endless alternation of languages and rhythms.
Patchanka brought a musical revolution to the world of pop/rock music, showing that one could experiment with many other multicultural musical paths, united under the veil of rock music. Songs like Mala Vida, Darling Darling, Lonesome Bop, Rock Island Line, and Indios de Barcelona paved the way for something different and eclectic that could burst onto the scene in Europe at the end of the '80s.
Another appreciation for Patchanka is that it is a parade of a crazed musical circus. For the record... the album's success was limited to France at No. 145 (!)
