King Of Bongo by Mano Negra
About the album King Of Bongo
Mano Negra returns with their third studio album in April 1991, titled King Of Bongo, and they continue to present songs that are the result of mixing different musical genres and languages. In this particular record, "Motorhead" (Letter To The Censors) meets the waltz (Le Bruit du Frigo). The English language takes center stage in King Of Bongo compared to French or Spanish.
King Of Bongo is an album that didn't advance Mano Negra's career to the extent that the band's already dedicated fans would have expected. Nevertheless, the title track has become one of the most recognizable songs both for Mano Negra and for Manu Chao in terms of his solo career following the band's dissolution.
Rolling Stone magazine, in its French edition, has placed King Of Bongo at the 61st position among the best French rock albums. In France, its sales reached 300,000.
