Birds Of Fire by Mahavishnu Orchestra
About the album Birds Of Fire
The ensemble Mahavishnu Orchestra was a jazz fusion band from New York, which was formed in the early 1970s and Birds Of Fire was their second studio LP, which now holds a prominent position in the field of this particular music genre. Birds Of Fire was recorded in August 1972 and released in January 1973.
The ten compositions of the album are creations of the guitarist and composer John McLaughlin. Birds Of Fire is the second and final album of the original lineup of the ensemble. The composition Miles Beyond is dedicated to Miles Davis, with whom McLaughlin had collaborated, while the piece Celestial Terrestrial Commuters was included in the 2011 collection "JAZZ: The Smithsonian Anthology", a collection where through six CDs the most significant jazz pieces that shaped Jazz are presented.
Birds Of Fire reached No.20 in Great Britain and No.15 on the Billboard chart.
