The Dangermen Sessions Vol. 1 by Madness
About the album The Dangermen Sessions Vol. 1
The album The Dangermen Sessions Vol. 1 by Madness was released in 2005 and represents a return to the band's roots. The album's title comes from the pseudonym "The Dangermen," which the band used for a series of "secret" appearances at the Dublin Castle pub in Camden in late 2004. Inside the album, there is a fictional story that presents the Dangermen as a lost reggae band from 1960s Havana (!)
It is a purely ska and reggae album. The band set aside the more "pop" sound of previous years to focus on the rocksteady and 2-tone that established them. It is a covers album with songs that influenced the band members. It includes classic tracks such as Desmond Dekker's Israelites, Sir Lancelot's Shame & Scandal, but also unexpected choices such as the Kinks' Lola, the Supremes' You Keep Me Hanging On, and José Feliciano's Rain.
The album The Dangermen Sessions Vol. 1 achieved significant commercial success for the time, reaching No11 on the UK Charts. It was the highest position achieved by a Madness studio album in the UK since 1984.
