Balmoral by Loquillo
About the album Balmoral
Balmoral is the second solo work of the Spanish rock artist Loquillo (José María Sanz Beltrán), released in 2008. It is considered one of the most important and "mature" albums of his career, marking his definitive departure from the band Los Trogloditas after 30 years of collaboration. The title and the eponymous song are a tribute to the legendary Balmoral cocktail bar in Madrid, which had closed shortly before the album's release, symbolizing the end of an era.
It moves in the pop/rock and classic Spanish rock en español genres, with strong elements of maturity in the orchestration. A special moment on the album is the participation of French legend Johnny Hallyday in the duet Cruzando El Paraíso, a collaboration that gave an international aura to the album. The album featured well-known names from the Spanish scene such as Igor Paskual (guitar), Laura Gómez Palma (bass), and Laurent Castagnet (drums). The songs Memoria de Jóvenes Airados, Sol, Hermanos de Sangre, and Cruzando el Paraíso stood out.
Balmoral was recognized as a commercial and artistic success in Spain. It helped Loquillo establish himself as a solo artist, paving the way for his subsequent works that reached No. 1 on the Spanish charts (such as Código Rocker and Viento del Este).
