About the album Meteora

Meteora is the second studio album by Linkin Park, which was released on March 25, 2003, by Warner Bros. Records. It is one of the most iconic albums of the 2000s, establishing the band at the top of the global music scene. The title is inspired by Meteora in Greece. The band was impressed by the monasteries built on the rocks, considering that the title reflects the "quiet strength" and awe they wanted their music to evoke (!)

The musical style of the second album once again combines nu metal, rap rock, and alternative metal, retaining the sound of their first album Hybrid Theory, but with a more mature approach, incorporating elements from hip-hop beats, electronic effects, and live strings. The recording of the album's songs took place between April and December 2002, mainly at NRG Studios in North Hollywood, but also at Soundtrack Studios in New York City and at Mike Shinoda’s home. Part of the composition even took place on their tour bus. The production was undertaken by the band itself along with Don Gilmore. The album released some of the band's biggest hits: Somewhere I Belong, Faint, Numb, Breaking The Habit, and From The Inside. The cover does not depict a member of Linkin Park, but the Dutch graffiti artist Boris Tellegen, known as Delta. The photograph shows him working on a large mural during the "Meteora Art Days".

Meteora managed to sell 810,000 copies in the U.S. alone in its first week of release (!) easily reaching No. 1 in the United States. The worldwide sales of Meteora "were limited" – in comparison to the band's debut – to 13,000,000 copies worldwide (!)
