Recent Songs by Leonard Cohen
About the album Recent Songs
After the "experiments" Leonard Cohen tried in Death Of A Ladies' Man, he returns to the familiar folk paths. Recent Songs, his sixth album, was recorded between April and May 1979 in a very calm atmosphere, something that did not happen with the previous record with Phil Spector as the producer, but also out of control. The producer now was Henry Lewy.
In this album, Leonard Cohen will record for the first time with his friend from the early 1970s, Jennifer Warnes, on vocals. The album contains the song The Lost Canadian, which is an adaptation of the traditional Canadian song Un Canadien errant. Came So Far For Beauty is a composition by Cohen and John Lissauer. All the other songs are Cohen's compositions. The singer-songwriter has stated that the album Recent Songs and its creation were among the best moments of his career and that his collaboration with Henry Lewy went extremely well. Cohen's portrait, which adorns the album cover, is a work by Dianne Lawrence.
Taking into account the chart numbers in various countries, Recent Songs is his most unsuccessful album.
