About the album Nebraska
Nebraska is the sixth album by Bruce Springsteen and at the same time represents one of the biggest turns in his artistic career. In 1982, the year Nebraska was released, Springsteen saw what had prevailed in the USA due to Ronald Reagan's presidency and, disappointed, composed ten songs of disappointment, sadness, and pain using only an acoustic guitar, a harmonica, and his husky voice. In reality, these are ten stories of ordinary everyday people, each experiencing their own difficulties in life, struggling and finding it hard to get by. The photograph on the cover says it all about the content of the album. The photo belongs to photographer David Michael Kennedy, who took it in the winter of 1975, and Springsteen didn't struggle much in choosing it for the cover of his album.
The whole situation becomes even more interesting because the recording was done at his home in Colts Neck, New Jersey. Bruce Springsteen locked himself at home with his guitar and thoughts and recorded seventeen new songs on a 4-track recorder. Ten of these songs became Nebraska, while the rest appeared in collections, b-sides of some singles, here and there. Among them was a song titled Born In The USA (!)
Nebraska reached No. 3 in both the USA and the UK. Its sales in the USA have now reached 1,000,000. It would not be called popular by Bruce Springsteen's standards. In hindsight, we can say it resembles the calm before the storm that would come in the next few years.
