About the album Songs Of Leonard Cohen

In 1966, Leonard Cohen's dream was to become a country composer in Nashville, but ultimately, his stay in New York and his interaction with the folk music community there made him change his mind. Thus, in 1967, he recorded and released his set lyrics and presented them in the album Songs Of Leonard Cohen, an album landmark for folk music.

With few exceptions in the album's songs, what dominates is the voice, the lyrics, and the acoustic guitar of the Canadian singer-songwriter. Leonard Cohen's initial desire for the sound of his first album was to be as simple as possible. This led to conflicts between the composer and John Simon, the album's producer, who insisted on having some kind of orchestration.

Ultimately, Songs Of Leonard Cohen fared better in countries like Great Britain and other European countries rather than in the U.S.A. and Canada. For example, in the Netherlands, it reached No. 4.
