In 1993, after recordings that had started in 1992, Lenny Kravitz, in his third studio album titled Are You Gonna Go My Way, unapologetically reveals his musical influences and creates one of the most accomplished albums of his career. The album is produced by Lenny Kravitz himself, while the contribution of guitarist Craig Ross is significant.

In the album, one has the opportunity to hear how Kravitz has perceived the music and songs of Led Zeppelin, Bob Marley, and Jimi Hendrix, as well as Curtis Mayfield, the Beatles, and Prince. The first single from the album was the eponymous Are You Gonna Go My Way, which immediately became an international hit.

The album went platinum in Japan, the Netherlands, and France, double platinum in the USA, and quadruple platinum in Canada.
