Animalize by KISS
About the album Animalize
Animalize was released in 1984 and is the twelfth album by KISS, marking one of their most successful periods in the 1980s, during their "unmasked" era. The band's lineup during the recording of Animalize consisted of Paul Stanley (vocals/guitar), Gene Simmons (vocals/bass), Eric Carr (drums), and Mark St. John on guitar. It is St. John's only album with the band, as he was soon replaced by Bruce Kulick due to health issues.
The album was recorded between May and July 1984 at Right Track Studios in New York City. In addition to Stanley and Simmons, external collaborators such as Desmond Child, Mitch Weissman, and Jean Beauvoir also participated in the songwriting. The album was produced by Paul Stanley (with the help of Michael James Jackson), as Gene Simmons was busy with his film career. The cover, featuring animal prints, was designed by Howard Marks Advertising. Its aesthetic reflected the glam metal trend of the time.
The song "Heaven's on Fire" became a huge hit, with its music video played relentlessly on MTV. The album went platinum in the U.S. (over 1,000,000 copies) and was KISS's most commercially successful album since Dynasty (1979).
