About the album Fire Dances

Fire Dances was released on July 15, 1983, and is the fourth studio album by Killing Joke. It marked a new era for the band, as it was the first album with Paul Raven on bass, who replaced Youth.

The recording of Fire Dances took place at Basing Street Studios in London between February and March 1983. The production was done by the band itself. Drummer Paul Ferguson has stated that drug use during that period affected the final mix, making it sound somewhat “thin” or “metallic.” The style of the album is characterized as post-punk with strong tribal elements. It is more outgoing and “danceable” compared to their previous dark album, Revelations. The album opens with the iconic The Gathering and includes tracks like Fun And Games, Frenzy, and Dominator.

The only single from the album was Let's All Go (To The Fire Dances), which was accompanied by the band’s first music video and reached No. 51. The album reached No. 29 on the UK charts.
