Walls And Bridges by John Lennon
About the album Walls And Bridges
Walls And Bridges comes at a time when Lennon has separated from Yoko Ono and has moved to California. While preparing an album with rock 'n roll covers to be produced by Phil Spector, the latter disappears along with everything they had recorded. Thus, John Lennon writes new material, which will become his fourth solo album and will be released in 1975.
Under these circumstances, Walls And Bridges was recorded and created, an album in which Lennon manages to combine many different genres of pop and rock music. The first single of the album was Whatever Gets You Through The Night. The title of the song is a phrase from an evangelist that Lennon heard him say late one night on television. On the piano, we hear Elton John. It became Lennon's first No.1 on the Billboard singles chart. Among those who worked on the album was a young sound engineer named James Iovine.
Walls And Bridges reached No.1 in the U.S. and Canada. In the United Kingdom, it stopped at No.6.
