About the album I'm Jimmy Reed
The bluesman Jimmy Reed, born in Mississippi in 1925, released his first solo album in 1958, which is titled I'm Jimmy Reed. Of course, it was not Jimmy Reed's first recording, as his first single was High And Lonesome, a recording from 1953. His first single to achieve success on the Billboard R&B chart, reaching No. 5, was his song You Don't Have To Go.
This song and eleven others that had been released as singles from 1953 to 1958 would make up Jimmy Reed's first LP. The album features the characteristic blues sound of the 1950s.
The company through which I'm Jimmy Reed was released was the legendary Vee-Jay Records, which specialized in Jazz and Blues music. It is worth mentioning that all the songs were recorded in Chicago and are heavily influenced by the city's blues scene.
