About the album Thick As A Brick

Ian Anderson and Jethro Tull entered the studio in December 1971 and prepared the album that would be characterized as the ultimate concept album, Thick As A Brick, an album that is essentially one continuous musical piece lasting 44 minutes. For practical reasons, there is Thick As A Brick (Pt. 1) and Thick As A Brick (Pt. 2), since each piece occupied the two sides of the vinyl. Thick As A Brick was released in March 1971.

Jethro Tull with their fifth album offers the progressive rock audience an excellent album of this particular genre. The creator of Thick As A Brick, Ian Anderson, essentially wanted to satirize the progressive rock scene, which at that time was in its best period (!) The first edition of the album on vinyl and its cover was an imitation of a twelve-page newspaper.

The album reached No. 5 in the United Kingdom and No. 2 in the United States, where it went gold, selling over 500,000 copies.
